Vietnam Shrimp Processing Market Report
Vietnam has emerged as a global powerhouse in shrimp production and processing, with its industry contributing significantly to the country’s export economy. With over 750,000 hectares of shrimp farms and an annual output exceeding 1.3 million tons, Vietnam ranks among the top shrimp exporters worldwide. As global demand for high-quality, value-added seafood continues to rise, Vietnam’s shrimp processing market is undergoing rapid transformation—driven by automation, sustainability, and international standards.
One of the most significant shifts in Vietnam’s shrimp processing sector is the adoption of shrimp peeling machines. Traditionally, peeling shrimp was a labor-intensive task, often performed manually under challenging conditions. However, rising labor costs, hygiene concerns, and the need for consistency have accelerated the transition to automated peeling systems.
Modern shrimp peeling machines in Vietnam now feature programmable logic controllers (PLC), high-speed motors, and vacuum packaging capabilities. These machines can process up to 1,500 shrimp per hour, dramatically reducing manual labor and improving food safety. By 2025, Vietnam is accelerating its shift toward eco-friendly and sustainable processing. The government is promoting circular economy models, reducing antibiotic use, and cooperating with international organizations to improve aquaculture standards and product quality.
On the equipment side, the shrimp peeling machine has become a key factor in boosting efficiency and hygiene. Globally, peeling and deveining systems account for over 35% of installed shrimp processing equipment, with Southeast Asia—especially Vietnam, India, and Thailand—making up more than half of global demand. The adoption of automated shrimp peeling machines significantly reduces labor costs; some factories reported a 62% cost reduction within two years of installation.

Automation also ensures higher throughput and product consistency. Traditional manual peeling lines typically process only 80–120 kg per hour with around 85% yield. In contrast, modern shrimp peeling machines can achieve 400 kg per hour, with yield rates of 93–95%. To meet strict EU seafood hygiene standards, some automated systems integrate chlorine-free disinfection, delivering up to a 99.2% reduction in pathogens, far beyond manual capabilities.
Despite these advantages, challenges remain. High upfront investment, ongoing maintenance, and the need for skilled operators continue to limit adoption, particularly among small and medium-sized processors. Integration with older equipment is another barrier that many factories face.
